More Than Learning: “Friendship Beyond Language Barriers”—A Story from the ASEAN Female Multimedia Journalists’ Training Program in China

Nanning City, Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region: During the participation in the “Seminar for Female Multimedia Journalists from ASEAN Countries” organized by the Guangxi International Business Vocational College, a total of 27 participants from three countries attended (15 from Lao PDR, 5 from Myanmar, and 7 from Indonesia). Beyond the academic knowledge and field trips, two memorable incidents stood out, reflecting the attentiveness and swift service system of the People’s Republic of China.

1. Problem Solved in 10 Minutes: Luggage Replacement at Hangzhou Airport
During a study tour from Nanning to Hangzhou, upon arriving at Hangzhou Xiaoshan International Airport, the delegation found that two suitcases belonging to participants from Lao PDR were damaged.
Immediately, the accompanying college staff led them to coordinate with the airport service office. After inspecting, taking photos of the damaged luggage, and reporting to the supervisor in charge:

    • It took only 10 minutes
    • Officials asked them to sign a report
    • Then immediately brought two brand-new suitcases as replacements
This efficiency and high level of responsibility deeply impressed the media delegation.

    2. Cross-City Attentiveness: Tracking Down Misplaced Souvenirs
After completing the study tour in Hangzhou, on the day of returning to Nanning, a participant from Myanmar accidentally left behind a handbag filled with souvenirs from Hangzhou meant for family. The bag was forgotten at a restaurant in Hangzhou Airport where the group had dined together before boarding their flight.
Only upon arriving in Nanning did the participant realize the mistake. Without hesitation, the accompanying college staff immediately called to coordinate and assist in tracking it down:

      • Nearly 12 hours later: They were contacted by Hangzhou Airport confirming that the bag had been found, instantly bringing back smiles and relief to the participant.
      • Three days later: The gift bag was delivered safely to Nanning.

Conclusion: An Efficient System and Borderless Friendship
Both incidents were swiftly resolved while the delegation was still participating in the training program in Nanning. This not only demonstrates the well-coordinated, detailed, and systematic management of the People’s Republic of China, but also proves how effectively it assists foreigners—some of whom are not yet fluent in Chinese—to ensure their comfort and convenience.

Language differences can never stand as a barrier to close ties and good friendship.”

These experiences left a lasting impression on all participants, serving as testament that care and friendship truly overcome language barriers.
