Video contest pushes for environmental protection The upcoming “Lao Youth Visual Contest”, which offers prizes for winners, is set to expose challenges facing the climate and explore possible solutions to address these challenges in order to keep the environment protected. The contest focusing on the theme “How I act for the climate” is organised by the French Media Development Agency and Lao Youth Radio in collaboration with the CFI Media Development.
The contest invites young Lao people aged 18-35 to submit a 60-90 second video or an infographic on the theme, showcasing creative ways of youth dealing with climate change today, and ways to deal with the changes. Application closing date is February 21, 2021.
The selected finalists will be given the opportunity to attend a workshop to sharpen their knowledge and skills in environmental storytelling techniques.
Eligibility
Mekong Sustainable News Project 2020 Laos The contest is open to all Lao citizens aged 18-35. The contest is designed for aspiring young Lao people (individuals or a team) interested in promoting climate action through storytelling techniques. If a team works to produce a video/infographic, only one member of a team will be eligible to participate in a training/mentoring event and the awarded prizes will have to be shared among the team members.
Rules
Each entry must clearly and creatively address the theme “How I act for the climate”. The video/infographic should be in English, or if created in local language the video/Infographic should be complemented with English subtitles. Entries depicting violence, sexism, racism, or other inappropriate content such as smoking, drinking, or other vices, including messaging deemed to advocate curtailment of the rights of others, will be disqualified.
A video/Infographic production workshop for 15 selected finalists will be held at the French Institute in Vientiane. Participants will need to attend the 2-day workshop or will be disqualified (see calendar below)1. The content produced by the 15 selected finalists will be published by Lao Youth Radio.

By entering the contest, participants acknowledge and guarantee that the submitted video/infographic is an original work created solely by the entrant and that it does not infringe on copyrights; trademarks; and the rights of privacy, publicity, or intellectual property rights of any person or entity. By submitting an entry to the video/infographic contest, participants agree to grant CFI and Lao Youth Radio (under the Lao Youth Union) the right to reproduce, distribute, display, and create derivative works of the entry in any media at any time.
Final Video Selection and Prizes (following the training workshop)
Selection criteria for the Lao Youth Visual Contest, prioritised by the judging panel:
Adherence to the theme: The visual content clearly and creatively represents the theme “How I act for the climate” through positive youth perspectives. (5 points)
Originality and creativity: The content is unique and not derivative of other ideas and presents the theme in an original and compelling way. (5 points)
Potential viewer impact: The video/infographic conveys personal or aspirational thoughts that are inspiring to viewers. (5 points)
Use of science: The content helps the general audience to understand a specific scientific concept or clearly communicate scientific results. (5 points)
Overall execution:
The video reflects thoughtful framing and composition, presenting a clear story, is well-paced and focused, and has a clear and audible soundtrack and/or voice-over. The infographics must have a good balance of visual information with written information, accurate, well researched, tell a story, a clear message and be visually appealing. Overall visual techniques: The visual content is appealing to viewers through composition and technique, using appropriate effects. Duration: The duration of the final video should not exceed 2 minutes. Number of infographic: should not exceed 9 pages in the form of a picture

Fantastic prizes for the top three videos will be given to the 1st, 2nd and 3rd place winners!
